Today, December 16th, the new patch 1.2 for New World will be released. The big December update brings the winter event and major changes to the endgame. We at MeinMMO summarize the highlights of the patch notes and tell you how long the maintenance work will take.

What are the highlights of the update? The biggest change in the December patch is the overhaul of the watermark system. That means competence in the future and the value is displayed directly in the inventory next to your armor. In addition, the so-called plaster system will be introduced, which you can use to increase your competence easily and in a targeted manner.

We have explained exactly how this works here: New World: This is the best way to strengthen your equipment from patch 1.2.

Other important changes are:

What about the winter event? The winter event will start as soon as the patch is released. The event was originally announced for December 14th.

It now runs from December 16, 2021 to January 11, 2022.

You can find exact details about the content, quests and rewards in our guide:

New World: Winter Convergence Festival Guide

What about the release and server down? The new patch 1.2 will be deployed today, December 16, at 1:00 p.m. This leads to longer maintenance work.

Server maintenance is said to take 3 hours. The server down should then be over at 4:00 p.m.

New World Update 1.2 – The official patch notes

As usual, we have included the patch notes from the official New World website for you. The PTR notes appended at the very end are currently only available in English (via New World).

Innovations in the endgame

Based on feedback on the high watermark system and a desire to keep the endgame exciting and varied, this update brings some major changes to the endgame. For more on our vision and future changes, check out the Competence developer article on our official forums.

New World: Neues Update 1.2 überarbeitet das Endgame stark – Patch Notes und Wartungsarbeiten

  • A new raw material, Gypsum, is introduced, which can be acquired through a variety of activities (named bosses in the open world, Expedition bosses, Outpost Storm, Arenas, Corruption Outbursts, etc.). Each activity yields a different type of gypsum that can be used to create a gypsum ball. These bullets can then be made into plaster casts of any type of weapon, armor, or jewelry. Opening a plaster cast guarantees a proficiency boost and gear of that type.
  • We have introduced furnaces in all endgame zones, where players can create gypsum balls from the different types of gypsum.
  • We've reduced the overall chance for a proficiency boost to compensate for the new guaranteed boost from Cast. Elite chest chances have been reduced a bit and open world bosses chances have been increased significantly. Nothing has changed for expedition bosses.
  • We've adjusted the potential range of skill advancement based on skill level. In general, the ranges are slightly wider in the higher progression bands, so overall it takes fewer "boost moments" to reach the max (ie, on average, most should need fewer boosts to do so).
  • Expedition rewards increased
  • We've introduced Timeless Shards, a new crafting resource that can be used to guarantee certain stats on weapons and armor.
  • 2 landmarks become endgame content
  • We've increased the level of Corruption Bursts to 66 in the endgame.
  • We've made a number of adjustments to endgame difficulty to compensate for some overkill changes in the November patch. Our goal is to find the happy medium between the too-easy endgame content before November and the over-the-top OVR sponges afterwards.
  • Balanced Adjustments: We lowered the difficulty of a number of named AI enemies in the open world, including alligators, boars, bears, and puggy goons.
  • Adjustments in Imperial Palace / Northern Palace Shrine: We have lowered the difficulty of Named Bears, Corrupted Tigers and Dynasty Lancers, Dynasty Summoners and Dynasty Warriors.
  • Scorpio Difficulty Adjustment: We've lowered the difficulty of Elite Vines and Hellmouths and the named Corrupted Brute.
  • Ambusti Superior / Inferior: We have replaced 2 Large Supply Chests with Elite Chests.
  • Grotto of the Dead: We lowered the difficulty of the named ghost.
  • Lightwood Isle: We lowered the difficulty of the 2 named spirits.
  • Periheim: We lowered the difficulty of the named alligator, ghost, and undead hunter.
  • Distorted Altitude: We lowered the difficulty of named Corrupted Stag and Corrupted Acolyte.
  • Eridanus: We lowered the difficulty of the Dryad Shaman.
  • Caminus: We moved an existing elite chest to the boss fight with the Caminus Gatelord.
  • Svikin Camp: We lowered the difficulty of the two named acolytes and the named worker.
  • Eternal Pond: We reduced the difficulty of the Dryad Shaman.

    Winter Convergence

    December end game update

  • Reduced the cost of crafting a Gypsum Orb from 100 coin to 2.5, and Gypsum Cast from 475 coin to 5. We decided there was no need to add another coin expense for our level 60 players, but kept a minimal amount so end game territory owners can earn a little more tax income.
  • Reduced cooldown on Topaz Gypsum Attunement Potion from weekly down to daily, which means players will now be able to earn enough Topaz Gypsum to craft an orb each day. We also reduced the crafting ingredients to make it less difficult to craft and increased the drop rate of Topaz Gypsum when the potion is in effect.
  • Reduced Gypsum earn cooldown timers from 22hrs to 18hrs just to give a little more leeway to people's play schedules.
  • Adjusted the way Expertise bumps work so there is a minimum, as well as a maximum. The minimum is set to 2, and maximum starts at 5 and ramps down to 2. Our goal is to average around 35 bumps required to get from min to max Expertise.
  • Gypsum is now rewarded for completing an event, rather than given in the reward cache from the event. A few activities such as Outpost Rush, Corrupted Breaches, Arenas, and Aptitude granted Gypsum in the reward cache in the PTR. This leads to hoarding and uncertainty if using a cache is past the cooldown timer. This change should resolve both of those concerns.
