If a company uses a legacy application, its maintenance should already be recorded in the budget plan. This is exactly where the principle of zero cost transformation comes in, as software revival specialist Avision explains: An IT service provider takes on maintenance for a certain period of time, modernizes the software at the same time and receives the budget amount as an annual fixed fee.

The model relies on the fact that the service provider can usually maintain software more efficiently than the company itself. Modernization also means that the software requires less maintenance, so that maintenance over time generates less effort than is covered by the flat rate becomes. Theoretically, this difference is big enough for the IT service provider to make the necessary profit.
