Why clean the makeup brushes?

Ad

You clean your face regularly, use face masks and spend a lot of money on skin care products and your skin still looks unclean? Then you might want to take a look at the tools you use to apply your makeup. The answer to the question why we should clean our makeup brushes is actually quite logical. We use these almost every day to do our makeup. Accordingly, more and more small color pigments collect there over time and this has several consequences. Product build-up, dirt and dust can clog our pores, leading to inflammation and acne breakouts. In addition, bacteria feel comfortable with moisture and after all we don't want to spread them on our faces, do we?

Clean brushes are also essential for a flawless look. Going into many different products with the same brush will mix them up ugly. The colors are then so contaminated and can no longer conjure up the desired result. The color distribution of dirty beauty tools is no longer as rich as with clean ones. Another important reason why we should clean the makeup brushes regularly is of course their durability. These are usually not exactly cheap and it can be quite annoying if they are no longer usable after a few months.

Cleaning makeup brushes: why and how often should you do it and what's the right way to do it?

How often do we clean our makeup brushes?

There is no general answer to the question of how often we should clean our makeup brushes. As different as the different applications and brush types are, we also have to clean them with different frequency. Depending on how often you apply make-up, the following rule applies: all brushes that come into contact with creamy and liquid products such as concealers, foundations and highlighters should be cleaned at least once a week. If you have sensitive skin and are prone to breakouts, you should wash your brushes more often. Make-up brushes for powder textures such as bronzer and eyeshadow, on the other hand, do not need to be cleaned as often. Cleaning every two to four weeks is completely sufficient. Unless you're changing shades, in which case you should thoroughly clean the brushes just prior to the new color.

What do beauty tools clean with?

When it comes to caring for our makeup brushes, there are many different ways we could clean them. From specially developed devices and cleaners from the drugstore to numerous home remedies - the selection is really huge! It's best to try a few methods and see what works best for you.

Clean make-up brushes with curd soap

Probably the easiest and quickest way to clean make-up brushes is with water and curd soap. And this is how you do it correctly:

With washing-up liquid

Alternatively, you can clean your make-up brushes with a gentle washing-up liquid. Here's how to do it right:

Vinegar and lemon for clean brushes

Vinegar and lemon are definitely among the best home remedies we can use to clean our makeup brushes. To do this, add 2 tablespoons of vinegar to about 120 ml of water and then dip the brush into the cup. Swirl in it a little and then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water. To counteract the unpleasant smell of vinegar, gently rub the brush on the lemon.

Cleaning makeup brushes with baby shampoo and olive oil

Baby shampoo and olive oil are another inexpensive option for thoroughly cleaning our makeup brushes. The method acts not only as a cleanser but also as a conditioner, making the bristles incredibly supple.
